La Luna en La Cuna

I created a quarter moon with a face through prescribed fire in collaboration with La Cuna Center, Central Basin Prescribed Fire Association, and Texas Parks and Wildlife. Prescribed burns are essential to grassland health; they stimulate native seed banks, limit woody encroachment, recycle nutrients, and restore hydrological function. The prairie becomes both surface and substrate, and fire becomes ritual mark-making rather than threat. Fire is situated not only as land management, but as a practice attuned to time, cycles, and care. Six months after the burn, the flora responded positively. We saw a super bloom of wild flowers that were reinvigorated by the nutrients provided by the fire.
