This print represents a 221 foot section of the thousands of actual footprints I pressed into the salty sand of the drying Sevier Lake, Utah, on July 7, 2024.

As the lake fully dried with these prints pressed, I imagined a distant future in which these footprints are uncovered as fossils. The footprint is undeniably a human mark.
Would they be interpreted as a marching army? Or one peculiar person doing a strange dance?

Many of Utah’s landscapes evoke an eerie feeling of a place where life has almost completely vanished.
The ocean receded, plants wilted, and all that remains is rock - sculpted by wind, water and people from long ago.

I’ve often feared this world without water. On this morning, there I was, not a soul, not a green leaf in sight. The sand muffled all sound; if it weren’t for the mountains in the distance, the terrain would have been entirely disorienting. miles and miles of nothing.
